Clear Powder Directions
SUCCESS WITH THERM-O-BOSS POWDERS
CONGRATULATIONS on choosing the highest technology powder available today! Following these simple directions will assure you if the best possible results when using our powders. These directions apply to our standard thermographic powders only. If you want LASER PROOF thermography, try our INSTA-CURE Laser Powder (thermo-set) or our ULTRA-VIOLET Laser Powder (UV machine needed).
First, empty your hopper and machine
of ANY other brand or kind of powder.
Put your Therm-O-Boss powder in the hopper.
Be sure the machine is dropping an adequate amount of
powder without being excessive.
Use a generous supply of ink tot he sheet.
Use a MINIMUM of fountain solution
to prevent too much moisture from reaching the printed sheets.
Turn the heat setting on your thermography machine DOWN
until the powder just BARELY fuses (melts) on the
sheet, then GRADUALLY turn it up until you get the desired
smooth and glossy finish. Since the amount of heat you need varies due to the size
and type of thermography machine used, this is best method of determining the proper heat
and speed settings for YOUR machine! Typically, you can turn the heat down
anywhere between 10%-30% over your previous setting. You can also SPEED UP your
production by keeping a HIGH temperature setting while running the
machine FASTER. Feel free to experiment to get the best results from your
machine.
If TOO LITTLE HEAT is used, the
surface will have an "orange peel" appearance, as all powders will. CORRECT
heat will give you a very smooth, rounded, high raise. The height of the raise is
determined by the granulation size used. The larger the granulation size, the higher
the raise will be, and vice versa.
TOO MUCH HEAT will result in LOST
raise because the powder will both spread and soak into the paper, as will other brands.
CORRECT heat adjustment WILL result in nice, smooth, rounded characters, even on
very absorbent stocks like "Classic Laid."
REMEMBER that Therm-O-Boss powders
are formulated to melt easier than most other powders you may have used before. This
is to your advantage if the correct heat adjustments are made. There can be lost
raise if some adjustment in either heat or speed is not made. Please feel free
to call us if you have any questions as you run the powder.
